Hardship for Old Hickory team

Our Old Hickory team finished a disappointing equal fifth at Takaka in the latest round of the inter-club competition for vets.

Only Richard Pearson - with 33 stableford points - was able to handle the tucked away pins, small and undulating greens and tight fairway lies, while his team mates struggled despite the excellent overhead conditions.

Next best was Lloyd Moyle and Graham Strickett with 29 points. Barry Rhodes (28) was our other counting score. Peter Watson (27) and Ian Hanford (21) had days to forget.

The home team showed how it was done by romping to victory, led by 36 points from Rex Heuvel who posted the best individual score.

Takaka's total of 133 was nine better than Totaradale (124) who finished second. Motueka (123) pipped Greenacres (122) for third. Nelson and Waahi Taakaro shared fifth on 119 points. Tasman (113) took home the popgun.

Twos were holed by Rob Dyce (Takaka), Greg Allan (Takaka), Ross Dalley (Totaradale) and Dave Duggan (Nelson).

The next round is at Greenacres on August 1.

We remain at the bottom of the club of the year points table after five rounds.
