McCrae and Weiss take out Cap-it-all Promotions Trophy

The veteran duo of Paul McCrae and Tom Weiss came from behind to claim the Cap-it-all Promotions Trophy on Saturday (May 4).

Three shots off the lead after the first round team best nett, they proved the steadiest down the stretch, with each shooting among the best individual nett scores of the day in the second round which was played off the blue tees in in ideal Autumn conditions.

Their winning total of 207 was three better than first round leaders Keri Kotua and Jonathan Tuheke who finished second on 211.

Alan Church and Dave Slow were third on 213, just ahead of Andy Isle and Lewis Wilson on 214.

They were followed by Dean Goodman and Rob Willems (216), Graham Eggers and Terry Hemi (217), and Rod Thomason and Phil Sellers (219).

Next were Jim McMullan and Kelvin Barkman (224), John McGougan and Richard Pearson (226), Dave Blake and Maurice Woodhouse (227), Peter Watson and Warwick King (228) and Steve Russell and Paul Tunnicliff (230). Bringing up the rear were Bryce Vincent and Steve Turnell on 234, while Paul Suan and Zane Lyttle did not complete their second round.

Despite the good conditions, scoring proved more difficult, with Paul McCrae winning the match of the day, a nett round, with a 70 on countback from Pat Melville. Rob Willems was the only other golfer under par with a nett 71 to finish third. Tom Weiss was fourth on 72. Next came the trio of Bryce Vincent, Alan Church and Peter Watson on 73 followed by Terry Hemi, Andy Isle and Keri Kotua on 74.

After no twos last week, there were six this week, including two each from Dean Goodman and Bryce Vincent who shared the jackpot of almost $200.

Next week is the first round of the Brebde Senior/Junior, which is matchplay on handicap with drawn partners. Shots are taken from the lowest handicap in each group of four.  Please get your names into Gordy. It is played over the next four to five weeks depending on the number of entries so if you enter make sure you are available.
