Waahi Taakaro players were prominent among the prize-winners at our first and only Simplicity Funerals mixed vets tournament of the year on Monday (Nov 22).

However, some notable performances by visiting golfers prevented complete domination by home club members in the stableford competition played in ideal conditions on a well groomed course which encouraged good scoring.

Barry Mitchell (WT) with 41 points took top honours on countback from Greenacres' Peter Nolan. Barry's score included a two on No 11.

Waahi Taakaro pair Barry Rhodes and Paul McCrae were next with 40 points each and they were followed by Sarel Nienaber (Greenacres) and Phil Sellers (WT) on 39 points apiece.

Robin Knight  (Nelson) and Paul Tunnicliff (WT) came in with 38 points, while Dennis Hall (Totaradale) on 37 points was another to play above his handicap.

Other prize-winners were Ray Hopgood (WT), Helen Kain (Greenacres) and Mike Murphy (WT) on 35 points, Warren Green (WT) and Chris Ruddlesden (Greenacres) on 34 points and Frik van Heerden (Greenacres) with 33 points.

Others to score twos were Paul Tunnicliff, Paul McCrae and Richard Pearson (WT).

Our thanks go to Simplicity Funerals for sponsoring the event, greenkeeper Eric Shurson for getting the course in excellent condition, our shop staff for making sure things ran smoothly and Phil Sellers for helping get things ready on the day.
