Old Hickory team comes up just short

A former Waahi Taakaro member denied our Old Hickory team a win in the latest round of the inter-club competition held at Totarardale on Thursday (Aug 3).

Elton Netto led his Totaradale team to the narrowest of victories by shooting the best individual stableford score of the day. His 38 points on the back of some accurate driving and sharp putting was the only score above handicap on an ideal day for golf.

His team's score of 126 was just one point ahead of Waahi Taakaro who were anchored by captain Ian Hanford's creditable 34 points which was the second best individual score. He received steady support from Peter Watson (31) and Richard Pearson and Mick Leggett with 30 each. Phil Sellers (27) and Barry Rhodes (23) were our non-counters.

Nelson - who were propped up by Dave Duggan's 33 points - claimed third with a total of 120 points. They were followed by Motueka and Takaka on 110 and Tasman on 108. The dreaded popgun went to Greenacres who mustered only 106 points.

Mick Leggett went home with more balls than he started with after being one of only three to get a two.

The next round is at Greenacres on September 7.
