Our Old Hickory team turned in a so-so performance to finish fourth equal at Tasman on Thursday (Oct 5).

It means we lose further ground to Motueka and Nelson in the season-long race, which has two more rounds to play.

The home team once again showed the benefit of local knowledge with a comfortable win.

Led by G Jameson’s 40 stableford points and Eric Satherley’s 39, Tasman’s total of 150 was seven better than Motueka (143) who came second, with Nelson (137) ending in third place.

Our team shared fourth with Takaka after we both finished with 130. Totaradale (129) was next, while Greenacres (122) took home the popgun.

Barry Mitchell (34) and captain Ian Hanford (33) were our best performers, with Richard Pearson (32) and Barry Rhodes (31) adding the extras. Mick Leggett (30) and Phil Sellers (27) were our non-scorers, although Mick did provide one of the highlights of the day, missing a hole-in-one by just centimetres on No 13.

Barry M and Craig McIntyre (Tasman) were others to share the twos money.

The top scorer of the day was Motueka’s Mike Malone with 41 points, one of just four players to match or better their handicaps on what was a good day for golf.
