Old Hickory team triumphs

Our Old Hickory team has gone from the outhouse to the penthouse in just a few weeks.

After coming home with the popgun for finishing last in the first round at Totaradale last month, the team bounced back in the best fashion possible by taking the trophy in the second round at Greenacres last Thursday (March 2).

However, it required a countback after both Waahi Taakaro and Takaka finished on 144 stableford points, which was decided by the fifth best score for each team. Fortunately, our 31 points trumped Takaka's 28.

We were superbly led by Graham Strickett who topped the individual scores of the day with 41 points. He received excellent support from Jack Denton who came in with 38 points. Tom Kennedy (33) and Phil Sellers (32) rounded off our total, while Warren Carey (31) and Barry Rhodes (30) weren't too far behind. Takaka's Graeme Bradley scored the only two of the day.

Totaradale finished third with 138 points. They were followed by Greenacres (135), Motueka (131) and Tasman (127), while Nelson (124) brought up the rear and get to gaze at the popgun until the next round at Takaka on April 6.
