Old Hickory team's hopes go pop
- 8 May 2025
- Peter Watson
Our Old Hickory team had a day to forget at Greenacres on Thursday (June 8), coming home with the popgun for finishing last and in the process surrendering our lead in the club of the year standings.
On a day tailormade for scoring, we hardly fired a shot, with Phil Sellers's 33 stableford points the best of a sorry lot. Captain Ian Hanford and Lloyd Moyle each contributed 32 points and Peter Watson a miserable 29. Non scorers were Dave Huntley (29) and Graham Galt (25).
Takaka took the trophy and honours with a total of 141, with Wayne Rothwell's excellent 40 points the best individual score of the day. He got good support from Robbie Dyce (37).
Dave Duggan (37) helped propel Nelson into second place with 139 points, which was just ahead of Motueka (138) who were well led by Reinhard Pauls (39).
They were followed by Totaradale (137), Greenacres (136) and Tasman (130), with Waahi Taakaro tailing the field on 126.
John Dow and Dave Duggan (Nelson), Mike McGee (Tasman) and Laurie Davidson (Greenacres) shared the twos balls with one each.
The next round is at Tasman on July 5.
