Old Hickory ties for third

Our Old Hickory team finished middle of the pack in joint third at Greenacres on Thursday (Sept 7).

It means we have slipped to third in the season-long race for the Car Company Cup, a very catchable 10 shots behind Nelson and Motueka.

Tasman turned on the style to win the latest round comfortably but the biggest surprise was the home team Greenacres getting the popgun.

Scoring in the spring sunshine was much higher than in recent months, with Tasman pair Chris Jones and John Aitchison having a day to remember with 42 stableford points each. Takaka's Greg Allen was the next best individual score with 41 points and there were nine other scores of 36 points or more.

Mick Leggett anchored our team with 38 points and received sound support from Ian Hanford (34) and Lloyd Moyle and Jack Denton with 33 each. Barry Rhodes (32) and Phil Sellers (25) were our non-counters.

Tasman topped the standings with 154 points, with Motueka and Nelson sharing second on 144. They were followed by Waahi Taakaro and Totaradale on 138 apiece and Takaka on 134. Greenacres finished last on 133.

Chris Ruddlesden (Greenacres) with two, Reinhard Pauls (Motueka), and Bob McKirdy, Ned Hickling and John Dow  (Nelson) all notched twos.

The next round is at Tasman on October 5.
