Opening day of the season

Our 2021-22 season opened with a flourish on Saturday (April 17) with a good field enjoying a fine day and some fun ambrose golf.

Ten teams of four vied for bragging rights over the 18 holes. Among those teeing off were two women, a number of visitors and some 9-hole members.

In the end, a team captained by our president John Towns and including Dave Blake, Warren Green and new member Sali Mann was a clear winner with an excellent nett 59.

In second equal on 61.125 was the team comprising Steve Russell, Andy Isle, Andrew Craig and Matt (from the Spring & Fern) and another team comprising Graham Strickett, Jack Denton, Mike Murphy and Rangi Kohe.

Next were Peter Green’s team (61.875), Alan Church’s team (62.5), Hamish Harvey’s team (62.625), Paul Tunnicliff’s team (62.75), Roma Elkington’s team (64), Maurice Woodhouse’s team (68.25) and Bryan Ramsey’s team (70.815).

Following prize-giving, the club put on a free BBQ for everyone in what was a great way to kick off the winter season.

Our thanks go to Cheryl McKean for her hard work in the kitchen preparing and cooking food and to Andy Isle and Steve Russell for their BBQ skills. Thanks also to Dave Blake and Warren Green is running the raffles and to our barmen Alan Church and Warwick King.
