Our Old Hickory team finished a worthy second in the latest round of the inter-club competition played at Takaka on Thursday (July 8).

Nearly all golfers struggled to play to their handicaps despite the calm, overcast conditions with the small, undulating greens proving a handful, although our top four scorers did better than many.

Mick Leggett headed our effort with 32 stableford points. He was backed up by Barry Rhodes (31), Phil Sellers (30) and Richard Pearson (29). Ian Hanford (28) and Bryan Ramsey (21) were the non counters.

Our total of 122 was just good enough for second behind comfortable winners Motueka on 130 points. Nelson (121) were a close third and Takaka a surprising fourth (120). Greenacres was next on 115. Tasman were awarded the popgun on countback after tying with Totaradale on 113 points.

Bill Rooney (Nelson), Denis Hall (Totaradale) and Andrew Fenemor (Motueka) topped the individual scoring with 35 points each.

The next round is on August 4 at Tasman.
