Sloan team starts with a draw

Our Sloan team kicked off a delayed 2018 season with a hard earned 3-all draw against Totaradale on Sunday (March 5).

Played in calm conditions on a well prepared Golden Downs course, we grabbed a draw when No 2 Rob Willems halved his match after his opponent three-putted the last.

Earlier No 3 Keri Kotua, with a two-up win, and No 4 Pat Melville, with a come-from-behind half (he won his last two holes with pars) had got the team into a potentially winning position after No 5 Jonathan Tuheke had secured a 5/4 win to offset a 2/1 loss suffered by No 6 Bryan Ramsey.

However, it came down to the final hole after No 1 Peter Watson lost 2/1 and Rob was able to secure the half. Both Rob and Peter shot 78 off the stick.

In other results, favourites Motueka thumped Takaka 5-1 as did Tasman against Murchison, while Greenacres and Nelson also fought out a 3-all draw. Waahi Taakaro sit in a share of third after the second round.

The postponed first round will be played at Murchison on March 25.
