Sloan team closer to the top

Our Sloan Trophy team sit just one point off the competition lead after sharing the points with Golden Downs at Greenacres on Sunday (June 21).

Again, we can thank our two intermediates, Peter Green and Jonathan Tuheke, along with Aaron Kotua, for the draw.

At the bottom of the draw, Warwick King had a tough day against an in-form opponent, going down 7/6.

However, Aaron levelled the tie, playing some impressive golf off the tee and on the green in winning 5/4.

Jonathan Tuheke again showed a lot of ticker, coming back from two down after two holes to win four on the bounce to lead by two at the turn before hanging on for a hard fought 2/1 victory.

Our impressive No 3 Peter Green again delivered the goods, destroying his rival 5/3, which included a birdie on a hole where he had to give a shot.

Unfortunately our seniors for once couldn't deliver the knockout blow. Keri Kotua found himself three down after the front nine and four down with five to go. A late rally wasn't enough and he lost 2/1.

Our No 1 Andy Isle was all square at the halfway mark but succumbed 4/3 to an opponent who played some great irons and recovery shots at key times.

The 4-all draw leaves us on 20 1/2 points, one behind new leader Takaka.

In other results, Takaka was made to work hard to beat cellar dwellers Murchison 6 1/2/ to 2 1/2, Nelson outclassed Totaradale 7 1/2 to 1 1/2 and Motueka edged Tasman 6 1/2 to 2 1/2

The points table after four rounds is: Takaka 21 1/2, Waahi Taakaro 20 1/2, Greenacres 19, Nelson 18 1/2, Motueka 17, Totaradale 16, Golden Downs 14.5, Tasman 6.5 and Murchison 5.
