Solid effort from Old Hickory team

Our Old Hickory team put on a much improved performance on Thursday (Sept 12) to finish third in the latest round of the inter-club competition played at Takaka.

It meant we passed the popgun - received after finishing rock bottom last month - over to Nelson, which was something of a relief.

The round had previously been delayed a week because of bad weather.

Elton Netto enjoyed the benign conditions at the Pohara links course to lead our team's scoring with 38 stableford points.

He received good support from Phil Sellers who notched 34 points. Other counting scores were Bryan Ramsey and Tom Kennedy who both totalled 32 points.

Ray Hopgood (29 points) and Barry Rhodes (disqualified) didn't trouble the scorers.

The home team again showed the benefit of local knowledge by easing to eight point win. Takaka's total of 153 points was comfortably ahead of Totaradale (145).

We headed the chasing pack on 136 points followed by Tasman (133), Greenacres (127) and Motueka (123) who narrowly shaded Nelson (122).

The next round is at Tasman on October 3.
