Visitors took top honours at our last mixed vets tournament of the year.

Played in hot conditions on a well prepared Waahi Taakaro course on Monday (Dec 17), Tasman's Dave Wilson scorched around the 18 holes off the white tees to surge to victory with an impressive 43 stableford points.

He was three ahead of Tom Trainer of Totaradale on 40 points, while locals Rod Thomason and Richard Pearson - the tournament organiser -  were next on 39 points. Robin Knight (Nelson), Brian Murray (Greenacres) and Waahi Taakaro president Pat Melville followed on 38 points. Rounding out the top ten were three more WT lads, Jack Denton and Elton Netto with 37 points and Ray Hopgood on 36 points. Shirley Winter of Greenacres was the top woman with 33 points.

Heather Wells of Totaradale (21 points) headed the 9-holers followed by John Towns of Waahi Taakaro (20 points) and Misha Markovic of Nelson (19 points).

Despite some hot scoring, no-one in the field of about 35 bagged a two.
