Our second annual Waahi Taakaro Scramble tournament on Saturday (March 25) proved a satisfying mix of relaxed golf, tasty on-course food and plenty of banter and brews in the clubhouse afterwards.

On a perfect autumn day on a course in good condition, twenty teams of three battled it out for bragging rights over 18 holes in the ambrose event.

In the end, Andy Isle’s team came up trumps with a net 61.

Paul Adam’s team pipped one led by Karl Russ for second on countback after both finished on 62.

Keri Kotua’s lads were next on 62.667. They were followed by Richard Pearson’s combo on 63.50, with Aaron Kotua’s team (64.333) rounding off the top six prize-winners.

We doff our caps to sponsors The Turf, Sprig & Fern, Ratcliffes, Crabb Electrical, Fulton Hogan, Tides Restaurant, Pestells, Sturrock and Greenwood, Rimu Grove and Lewis Wilson for providing prizes, goods and gear.

Our thanks go to Lewis Wilson, Andrew Woolley and co for serving up a delicious range of food while we played, which included fish, paua patties, venison and pulled pork.

Thanks also to those who helped tournament convenor Warwick King and his team on the day, and also to greenkeeper Cam Lubranksy for putting extra effort to get the course looking trim and tidy.
