For the second year in a row two golfers have shared the Player of the Year award for 2025, while a Golden Oldies stalwart won the coveted Rangiriri Kohe Memorial Trophy for Club Member of the Year at Waahi Taakaro's annual prizegiving yesterday (Nov 22).

Peter Green and Peter Watson were named joint winners of the top player's award and Noel Shaw was recognised for his sterling work as Golden Oldies convenor, a post he stepped down from recently after more than seven years.

Last year James Campion and Peter W shared the award which is based on points accumulated over all competitions during the winter season which runs from April to November. This year the two Peters could not be separated.

Peter G was crowned both Senior club champ and strokeplay winner. He also won the Cap-it-all Promotions Trophy in tandem with James and finished fourth in the season-long Barkman Trophy.

Peter W captured the Intermediate club champ and strokeplay titles as well as winning the Barkman Trophy and finishing second with Dave Huntley in the Brebde Senior/Junior. He also featured strongly last summer, winning the Stubberfield Cup and finishing second in the Burns Philp Cup.

Other multiple winners were Brendan Doyle who won the Junior A champs and the C&F Legal Stroke; Andrew Craig who took out the Junior B champs and the Pat Melville Memorial Trophy as well as finishing second in the Junior B strokeplay, Penketh Plate, Stubberfield Cup and Summer Fedex; Andy Isle who triumphed in the Six-Hole Challenge and the Penketh Plate and was runner-up in the Senior club champs and Paul McCrae who won both the winter and summer 9-hole club competitions.

Closing day of the season started with the traditional ambrose, this time played off the yellow tees. The team of Phil and Julie Sellers, Sally Quinlivan and Dave Huntley finished ahead of nine other teams with a net score of 57.25, with Phil sealing the win by chipping in for a birdie two on their final hole. Three other teams finished below a net 60 in blustery spring conditions.

After a BBQ, club president Grant Fergusson and club captain James presided over prizegiving which wrapped up a busy and successful winter season. Next Saturday (Nov 22) the summer season tees off with the first round of the Penketh Plate, which is a net round off the blue tees starting at 9am. The 9-holers will play a net round off the front nine starting at 11am.

To finish a competition with a birdie two is pretty special, Our partners team with Sue Moyle had a special moment as well by slotting her teams putt from the edge of the green for a two. Well done Sue.
