Average effort from Old Hickory team

Our Old Hickory team turned in another ordinary performance in finishing fifth at Greenacres on Thursday (August 1).

There was plenty of effort but for scant reward, although we did move off the bottom in the club of the year points table.

Captain Ian Hanford led from the front with 35 stableford points. He was supported by Graham Strickett (34) and Richard Pearson (33), with Barry Rhodes (31) providing the other counting score. Lloyd Moyle (29) and Jack Denton (25) found the going tough.

Our total of 133 was 12 shy of Motueka who - led by 40 points from Mike Hay and 36 from Roger Hall - took home the trophy after amassing 145 points. This was two better than Totaradale (143), who were anchored by Brian Biggs (40) and John Barnett (37). Takaka (139) claimed third, while Greenacres (135) could only manage fourth on their home course.

We led the also-rans from Tasman (126) and Nelson (122) who took away the popgun.

Mike H and Brian B were the best individual scorers of the day. Twos were scored by Mike H, Brian Murray, Bill Filmer and Greg Allen. Scoring was better than normal with 10 out of the 44 players in the field playing to or better than their handicap.

Takaka (1316) continues to lead the annual points race from Totaradale (1299) and Greenacres (1271). They are followed by Motueka (1262) and Nelson (1256). Waahi Taakaro (1218) has climbed narrowly above last-placed Tasman (1208).
