Awful start for Old Hickory team

Our Old Hickory team misfired badly at Greenacres on Thursday (Feb 4) in the opening round of the season to finish a distant last and come home with the popgun.

Phil Sellers and Maurice Woodhouse were the best of a woeful lot with 32 stableford points each. Ian Hanford (31) and Bryan Ramsey (30) were the other scorers, while Paul Tunnicliff (30) and Jack Denton (28) had off-days.

Our team total of 125 was 32 points worse than Motueka who cantered to victory on the back of 42 points apiece from Roger Hall and Barry Riordan, the top individual scores of the day.

Tasman was second on 144, while Greenacres couldn't make home advantage count in finishing third on 137. Nelson was next on 136, followed by Totaradale (134) and Takaka (132).

Conal Atkins of Nelson scored the only two of the day.

We have a chance to atone as the next round is on March 4 at Waahi Taakaro.
