Bowled over by Stoke again

The bowlers easily got the better of the golfers in our annual challenge against the Stoke Bowling Club on Sunday (May 1).

While Waahi Taakaro put up a better effort than last year in our two games of bowls in the morning to trail by only 24 points to 21, we were hammered in the afternoon 9-hole team ambrose 51-39 to go down by a comprehensive 75 to 60. Both teams are given handicaps in their non specialist sport in a bid to make it as fair as possible.

Twelve players from each club took part, including world bowls champ Shannon McIlroy.

The win made it two out of two attempts for Stoke in the bowls/golf challenge in what has become an enjoyable addition to our programme.

Andrew Craig and Peter Green proved very handy on the bowling rink, while Bryan Ramsey's team of Warren Carey, Brad Crabb and Peter Watson managed to finish third overall after the golf.

Our thanks go to Lindsay Brooks for organising the event.
