Only one player can rain on Mick Leggett's parade as he took a firm grip of the C&F Legal Stroke trophy after another steady round on Saturday (Sept 16).

Playing off the blue tees in warm conditions, the 30-handicapper shot a net 72 to add to earlier rounds of 73 and 68 for a best three of four round total of 213.

This is comfortably in front of his nearest challenger Pete Green who added a 73 for a final tally of 219.

Next were Jason Lee and Jack Denton on 222, Michael Savage (224) and Jonathan Tuheke (226).

However, James Campion (223) and Keri Kotua (232) were away on rep duty for the fourth and final round so have one last opportunity to make inroads. However, James would have to shoot a stunning round to deny Mick the crown for the second year in a row.

In the match of the day on Saturday - which also counted towards the Barkman Trophy and MS Ford Shootout - Michael Savage claimed the honours with a net 69 playing off a 25 handicap from the blue tees.

Jack Denton pipped Mick Leggett for second on countback after both recorded 72, while Pete Green - whose 79 was the best gross of the day - claimed fourth from Bryce Vincent after each came in with 73.

Five players - Peter Watson, Dean Goodman, Andy Isle, Jason Lee and Chris Louth - completed the top 10 with 74 apiece.

Bryce, Lewis Wilson and Jonathan Tuheke shared the twos money.

Lloyd Moyle topped the 9-holers with 19 stableford. Paul McCrae (16) and Heather Carey (15) were next.
