Capping off a great weekend

There was no rest for those still able to swing a club for a third consecutive day as Waahi Taakaro capped off a memorable 50th anniversary with a 9/18-hole tournament on a balmy Sunday.

The 18-hole honours went to Warren Carey who won the top net prize with an excellent 65. Nipping at his heels was Brad Crabb who beat Barry Rhodes on countback for second after both posted 66.

Greg Mann (67) and Bryan Ramsey (71) were the other prize-winners.

James Campion, with a 73 playing off a two handicap, won the best gross followed by Jasper Broad-Kolff (77) and Roger Hunapo (78).

Peter van den Bogaardt was the pick of the 9-holers with a stellar net 29 playing off a 15 handicap, while Noel Quinlivan (31) and Grant Fergusson (33) also shone. Club president Paul Tunnicliff won the gross prize with a 41 from Dave Blake (42).

There were plenty of twos with James Campion, Will Piket, Brad Crabb and Jason Lee bagging one each among the 18-holers. Nine-holers Grant Fergusson and Peter van den Bogaardt also got one each.

More than 70 golfers and their partners enjoyed a catered meal after prize-giving and a short speech by club founding member Chris O'Connor about the early days of the club.

Our thanks goes to sponsors Total Golf, The Tides, Lombardi's, The Waka, The Prince Albert and The Bach and to our hard working manager Tony Lewis and club volunteers for making it a weekend to remember.
