Three golfers produced wonderful rounds on Saturday (Oct 10) to stand out from the crowd.

Donna Dawson posted her best-ever 9-hole score, while veterans Bryan Ramsey and Mick Leggett lit up the 18-hole leaderboard.

In just her first full year of competitive golf, Donna showed how quickly she has advanced, recording an astonishing 30 stableford points to rocket to victory. Playing off a 20 handicap for the back nine, she struck the ball superbly in coming home with a 44 off the stick, which was five better than her previous best. Her round - which included three pars - saw her total four points each on four holes, three on another four and a solitary two on the remaining one. The win means she is now firmly in contention to win the 9-hole winter championship.

Rebecca Gibson also had a good day with 22 points to claim second, while Warren Green finished third with 21. Richard Pearson (20) and Barry Rhodes (19) grabbed the last points on offer. The quartet of Mike De Veer, Paul McCrae, Andrew Dodson and Marg Parfitt all totalled 18 in playing to their handicap. Richard was the only 9-holer to bag a two, at No 11.

So with just four competition days to go, Paul (35 points) clings onto the narrowest of leads from Mike (34) with Donna jumping to third on 32. Richard is next on 31. Still in with a good chance are Rebecca (29), Marg (26), and Warren and Lloyd Moyle (25 each).

The scoring was just as hot among the 18-holers as many enjoyed the extra run on the firming fairways. However, no-one could catch Bryan Ramsey who shot an impeccable net 63 to win maximum Barkman Trophy points and vastly improve his chances of qualifying for the Shootout. with just one round remaining. Bryan's gross 87 playing off a 24 handicap from the white tees featured five pars and 11 bogeys.

Almost as impressive was Mick Leggett who recorded a net 65 playing off a 29 handicap to finish a worthy second. His round owed much to a back nine 44.

Chris Louth shaded Jason Lee for third on countback after both carded net 68, with Jason shooting a fine 79 off the stick. Nick Riddell (77) was the only other golfer to break 80.

Also playing under their handicaps were Phil Sellers (69) and the pair of Andrew Bosselmann and Maurice Woodhouse who went round in 71 apiece.

There was some good efforts on the greens as well, with five - Jason, Chris, Andrew, B, Maurice and Andrew Craig - sharing the twos money with one each, while Andrew B was nearest the pin on No 11.

With just one left to play, Peter Watson still leads the Barkman table with 37 points, with Phil Sellers and Dave Huntley still with a show on 29 each.

Next Saturday (Oct 17) the NBS club champ finals are held, with Nick Riddell and James Campion doing battle for the senior crown, Peter Watson and Andrew Bosselmann vying for the intermediate title, Gareth Edwards and Harry Ambrose jousting for Junior A honours, and Andrew Craig and Jack Denton going for Junior B glory. All matches are off the blue tees.

All other 18-holers play a net round for their match of the day, while the 9-holers play a par round off the back nine.
