Barry Rhodes bounced back from a disappointing Old Hickory round to win the fourth and final round of the Penketh Plate on Saturday, but it was Brendan Doyle who ultimately took away the trophy.

Barry has been in good form recently but the 26-handicapper had a rare bad day at Totaradale on Thursday for our under-achieving Old Hickory team. However, he was back on song on Saturday, shooting a 94 off the more challenging blues tees for a net 68.

This was just good enough to see off Chris Louth who recorded a net 69 for second playing off a 30-handicap.

Jason Lee got rid of some more rust to show what a handy golfer he can be when he is able to tee it up. His tidy net 70 off a 15 handicap was just got enough to claim third on countback from Brendan who shot an 89 off the stick for a net 70. However, this was comfortably good enough to win the first of our summer competition to be decided, with his best of three out of four net rounds totalling 213. The all irons first round must be counted in each player's overall score.

Garth Jameson - who couldn't play because of injury after a fall off his bike - finished the competition in second place with a total of 217, while Aaron Kotua was third on 222 after fading with a final round net 78.

Likewise Bryan Ramsey had a disappointing 80 to end up fourth on countback from Pete Green (75) after both finished on 225.

Barry's good round pushed him up into sixth on 226, ahead of Peter Watson who finished with a 75 for a total of 228 and seventh.

Unusually on a day tailormade for golf, there were no twos.

Next week (Feb 18) we play the third round of the Stubberfield Cup, which is a net plus putts round off the blue tees.
