Dave Huntley took maximum Barkman Trophy points and improved his Shootout average by winning the latest round of both competitions played in cool but sunny conditions on Saturday (July 11).

After a delayed tee-off due to a hard frost, Dave was quick out of the blocks, tearing up the front nine in 44 off a handicap of 24. The back nine wasn't so good but his net 72 was more than good enough to head a small 18-hole field, reduced because a number of club golfers were playing in a tournament at Nelson. Dave was the only golfer to play to his handicap.

There was a four-way scramble for the minor places, with Harry Ambrose taking second on countback from Warren Carey, Chris Louth and Peter Watson after all carded net 74. Peter's 83 was the best gross of the day.

Jason Lee and Steve Turnell were next on 78.

No-one managed a two, but Neil McLaren was closest to the pin on No 2/10.

There was a larger 9-hole turnout, with Rebecca Gibson starring once again with an excellent net 31 for the front nine. Paul McCrae returned a tidy 33 to claim second, while Richard Pearson took third on countback from Andrew Green after both posted 35. Lloyd Moyle earned the final competition point with a 37. Again, no-one bagged a two with a handsome kitty for the next person who does so.

Next week (July 18) the 18-holers play the first round of the Six-Hole Challenge which is played off the white tees. The 9-holers will play a stableford round off the back nine.
