Club results for 18/2/23

A sharp chipping and putting display saw Peter Watson win the third round of the Stubberfield Cup on Saturday and surge into contention for the trophy with one round remaining.

The veteran leftie struggled at times off the tee but more than made up for his lapses by getting up and down 12 times in his net 71 off the blue tees by taking just 24 putts. His total of 95 in the net plus putts format was two better than Dean Goodman who showed he had lost little of his game after a break from golf to come in with a very tidy net 69. With 28 putts he totalled 97 to pip Jim McMullan on countback, who recorded a net 72 to go with a handy 25 putts.

Andy Isle stayed well in the frame with a net 72 and 29 putts to secure fourth with a total of 101. Next were Lewis Wilson (72 +30), Bryan Ramsey ((75 + 28), Brendon Doyle 74 +30), Steve Turnell (75 + 29), Greg Mann (73 + 32), Aaron Kotua (75 + 30) and Paul Tunnicliff (77 + 28).

Peter's 79 off the stick was the best gross of the day, while Dean and Andy both shot 80 in overcast conditions.

Mike Murphy, Aaron, Jim and Paul shared the twos kitty with one apiece.

With one round remaining Peter and Barry Rhodes share the lead, with Andy and Bryan within striking distance. The best three of four rounds count.
