Garth Jameson celebrated his selection in the Nelson team to contest the forthcoming Tasman Quad at Hokitika by winning the first of three rounds of the Six-Hole Challenge on countback from James Campion.
Both men rediscovered some form after some weeks in the doldrums by totalling 25 points each from their three six-hole mini matchplay games, where players get two points for winning a hole and one point for a half.
Chris Louth took third on countback from Mike Williams and Lewis Wilson after all three finished with 23 points. They were followed by Ian Hanford (22), Andy Isle (21), Peter Watson (20) and Matt Tomczyk (20).
Mike scooped the twos money by slotting the only one of the day at No 11.
Andy shot the best gross of the day, a 78 off the white tees, with Pete Green (80) and Peter (81) the next best on a course that is starting to dry out but remains muddy in places.
Steve Turnell was the best of the 9-holers with a steady net 36 for the front nine. Phil Sellers claimed second with a 37. Warren Carey, Lloyd Moyle and Andrew Green were next with 38 apiece.
Next week (July 26) we play the second round of the Six-Hole Challenge while the 9-holers play a stableford off the back nine.
