The rain held off just long enough for Andy Isle to claim the first round of the Penketh Plate on Saturday (Dec 2).

Under threatening skies Andy returned to form with a neat net 68 off the blue tees. His 79 off the stick was also the best gross of the day and comprised a 42 on his front nine and 37 coming in.

Aaron Kotua returned from a break to snatch second on countback after he, Paul Tunnicliff and Ian Hanford all finished with net 69s. Paul edged Ian for third.

Next were Jonathan Tuheke (70) and the trio of Dave Blake, Craig Barron and Chris Louth on 72. Jack Denton  and Graham Galt completed the top 10 with a net 73 and 74 respectively.

The twos money was shared between Paul and Brendan Doyle with one each.

Ali Mawby was by far the best of the 9-holers with an impressive net 31 off the front nine. Steve Turnell (35) and Andrew Dean (36) filled the minor placings.

Next Saturday (Dec 9) we play the second round of the Burns Philp Cup, which is a stableford off the white tees, while the 9-holers play a stableford off the back nine.
