Dave Huntley is on a roll and it's taken him to the top of the Barkman Trophy and Shootout standings.

The burly 24-handicapper took maximum Barkman points for the second time in a month on Saturday (August 22).

With a big contingent playing the Total Golf Open at Nelson and Motueka, only a small field teed it up but even so Dave would have been hard to beat as he motored round the course in an excellent net 67 off the white tees to blow away the opposition. Playing consistent golf, he went out in 46 before  roaring home in 44 for a 90 off the stick.

The 10 points he took for the win saw him vault into the lead on 27 after eight of the 14 Barkman rounds, just ahead of Phil Sellers (26), Peter Watson (24) and Keri Kotua (23).

Peter claimed second place on the day with a net 74, with Nick Riddell third on countback from Andrew Bosselmann after both carded 75.

Nick's Jeykel and Hyde 78 was the best gross of the day, which included four birdies included a two at No 14 plus a seven and a eight.

Bryan Ramsey shared the twos money with Nick after draining one at No 11.

The 9-holers again outnumbered the 18-holers, with Paul McCrae coming out on top on countback from Donna Dawson after both posted fine net 33s  for the back nine. Paul went round in 44 and Donna in 54.

Andrew Dean finished third with a 37, while Paul Tunnicliff and Jack Denton, with 37 each, were next. Again, no-one managed a two so the jackpot climbs further.

Next Saturday (August 29) the 18-holers play the second qualifying round of the club champs and C&F Legal Stroke which will be off the blue tees again. It is also another round of the Barkman and Shootout. The 9-holers play a stableford off the back nine.

Former multiple champ Paul currently holds a healthy lead in the 9-hole winter competition, with 32 points after two-thirds of the season. Richard Pearson and Mark Sherlaw share second on 24. Next are Rebecca Gibson and Lloyd Moyle on 22 each, Warren Carey (20), Donna Dawson (19), Warren Green (18), and Andrew Dodson and Andrew Dean with 17 apiece.

After seven of the 12 Shootout rounds, the net average standings are:

1st Dave Huntley (5 rounds) 72.6; 2nd Andy Isle (3) 73.66; 3rd Keri Kotua (5) 74.2; 4th Maurice Woodhouse (3) 74.33; 5th= Aaron Kotua (5) 75; 5th= Peter Watson (7) 75; 7th Pete Green (3) 75.33; 8th Chris Louth (5) 76; 9th Phil Sellers (6) 76.16; 10th Bryan Ramsey (3) 76.33; 11th= James Campion (3) 77; 11th= Graham Eggers (5) 77; 13th Jason Lee (4) 77.5; 14th= Andrew Craig (4) 78.25; 14th= Craig Barron (4) 78.25; 16th Gareth Edwards (5) 78.4; 17th Roma Elkington (4) 78.75; 18th Neil McLaren (4) 79; 19th Matt Tomczyk (5) 79.2; 20th Jack Denton (3) 80.66; 21st Jarod Huss (3) 82; 22nd Mark Clucas (4) 83.
