Club results for 23/12/23

It was a day for the lower handicap golfers to strut their stuff as the Burns Philp Cup enters the nitty gritty stage.

Club captain Pete Green showed who was boss with the best gross of the day, a 75 off the blue tees in drizzly conditions, for 40 stableford points to top the field and win the third round of the summer competition. Out in 40, he played the back nine on a one-under 35 in a emphatic return to form.

Andy Isle has been the man to beat over the last month and he was on song again with a 79 off the stick for 39 stableford and second place, which puts him in the box seat with just one round remaining in the three best rounds out of four event.

Peter Watson had to play in a sandal after suffering a painful toe injury, but still managed to finish third by shooting an 80 for 37 points.

The consistent Graham Galt was next with 36 points. He was followed by Keri Kotua and Jim McMullan who finished with 35 points each. The foursome of Michael Savage, Garth Jameson, Mark Clucas and Warren Carey completed the top 10 with 34 points apiece.

Andy, Mark and Warwick King shared the twos money with one each.

Our super-vet, Errol Guthardt, showed there is still golf well after reaching 90 years old by heading the 9-holers with 19 stablefords. Brendan Doyle (17) was the next best.

Our Saturday competition takes a break next week, but returns on January 6 with the third round of the Penketh Plate, which will be a net round off the blue tees.
