Christmas cheer was more abundant than good golf during the second round of the Penketh Plate on Saturday.

Despite ideal conditions, only six players in the field of 26 played under or to their handicap off the more challenging blue tees, with the two river holes back in action to complicate matters.

Mike Murphy took home the top prize with a net 69, with Neil McLaren - back from a shoulder injury - and Greg Mann just a shot back.

In-form Aaron Kotua, Paul Tunnicliff and James Campion returned 72s, with James' 75 off the stick the best gross of the day.

Next were Ian Hanford (73) and  Maurice Woodhouse (74), with Andy Isle and Chris Louth rounding off the top ten with matching 75s.

Pete Green and Aaron shared the twos money.

Next Saturday (Dec 31) we finish the year off with a combined stableford with drawn pairs off the white tees.

Thanks to Warwick King for organising the BBQ afterwards.

Have a great Christmas everyone.
