Club results for 25/4/26

  • 25 April 2026
  • Peter Watson

Just three golfers played to their handicaps despite the second round of the Barkman Trophy and Shootout being played in perfect autumn conditions on Saturday.

The only mitigating factor was that the greens were still a little bumpy after undergoing their autumn renovations last week.

Phil Sellers took match of the day honours and maximum Barkman points on countback from Peter Watson after both posted net 71 from the white tees. Playing off a 19 handicap, Phil shot a tidy 90, while Peter scrambled his way to a 79, just one of two gross scores under 80.

Duncan Isle finished third with a net 72, with club captain James Campion fourth on 73. James's 77 off the stick was the best of the day and included birdies at the par fives No 9 and No 10.

They were followed by Andy Isle (74) who pipped Mark Clucas (74) for fifth on countback, while Jason Lee (76) took seventh and the final Barkman point from Barry Rhodes (76) on countback.

Mark - with a birdie on No 5 - shared the twos money with Pete Green who birdied No 2. Barry got closest to the pin on No 5 after almost holing his drive but then left his birdie putt on the rim of the hole.

In the 18-hole field were former club captain and vice president John Hornby and his partner Julie Davis who received a warm welcome.

The 9-hole competition - which was a stableford off the back nine - was also decided by countback, with Warren Green getting the nod ahead of Donna Dawson after both recorded excellent hauls of 22 points. Paul McCrae - who slotted a birdie two on No 14 - was another in good form with 20 points. Roma Elkington grabbed the last competition point with 19 points in finishing fourth.

Next Saturday ( May 2) we play the second round of the Brebde Senior/Junior which was aborted last Saturday after just three holes when heavy rain flooded the greens. The four quarterfinal matches will be replayed in full off the blue tees with Craig Barron/Lewis Wilson pitted against Peter Watson/Dave Huntley, Paul Tunnicliff/Mick Leggett taking on Jarrod Huss/Mark Clucas, Graham Eggers/Maurice Woodhouse locking horns with James Campion/Duncan Isle and Lindsay Brooks/Neil McLaren doing battle with Andy Isle/Phil Sellers.

The match of the day for all others is a net round off the blue tees.

The 9-holers will play a par round off the front nine.
