Our Saturday competitions resumed after a break while we cleaned up after the most recent flood, with the first round of the individual matchplay featuring.
Played off the blue tees on a course still drying out, most golfers found it a tough test.
At the top of the draw, Jonathan Tuheke proved too good for the 2021 champion Barry Rhodes, winning 4/2.
Arron Kotua was in fine touch in subduing newcomer Craig Barron 5/4, while Graham Galt - fresh from a second place in his grade at the recent Festival of Golf - upset Andy Isle 3/2.
Mike Murphy outlasted Mick Leggett 2-up and Michael Savage saw off Chris Louth 4/3.
Lewis Wilson was too steady for Mark Clucas, coasting to a 5/4 victory, while Mike Williams got the better of Andrew Craig 4/3.
The last match between Keri Kotua and Lindsay Brooks was to be played later.
The following got byes through to the second round on June 10: Dean Goodman, Neil McLaren, Richard Denby, Garth Jameson, Peter Watson, Peter Green, 2022 champion Paul Tunnicliff and Phil Sellers.
In the match of the day - a net round off the blue tees - no-one played to their handicap, with Neil McLaren doing best with a net 74. Paul Tunnicliff claimed second on countback from Dean Goodman after both came in with 76.
Among the 9-holers, Nathan Towns headed a small field with a net 41, which was one better than Richard Kingsford.
Dean Goodman and Peter Watson shared the twos money.
This Saturday (June 3) we will endeavour to hold the semi-finals of the Brebde senior/junior as well as fit in another round of the Barkman Trophy and MS Ford Shootout, which will both be net rounds off the white tees.
