Like a gambler you need to know when to use them and when to hold them to play bisque par well.

An in-form Chris Louth used his 26 handicap points the most wisely to stroll to victory in the match of the day on Saturday.

His +7 on the back of a net 67 easily eclipsed the field.

Warren Carey - with a strong back nine - snuck second on countback from Bryan Ramsey after both finished with +4.

Michael Savage was next with +3, while Peter Watson and Andy Isle at +1 completed the top six.

The best gross of the day went to James Campion with a 75, closely followed by Pete Green on 76. Pete took away the twos money with the only one of the day, on No 14.

Phil Sellers topped the 9-holers with a handy +3, just ahead of Neil Howard (+2) whose score included a two.

Next week (Jan 6) we play the third round of the Penketh Plate, which is a net round off the blue tees.
