Garth Jameson is the Six-Hole Challenge champion for 2024 after leaving is best to last.

Played over three rounds of matchplay, the 14-handicapper was four points off the lead but streaked to victory on the back of a fine haul of 24 points - the second highest of the day - for his final round on a fine and frosty Saturday (August 3).

His total of 65 was four better than Paul Tunnicliff who pipped the second round frontrunner Barry Rhodes for second on countback after both finished with 61 points. While Paul came home with a solid 19 points, Barry faded with 16.

Peter Watson - buoyed by birdie twos at No 2 and 11 - posted 21 points to finished fourth on 60. Dean Goodman (58) , James Campion (57) and Keri Kotua (57) filled the minor places.

The individual star of the day was Gareth Edwards who proved almost unbeatable, losing just one of his 18 holes on the way to amassing an imposing 28 points. Despite only playing two rounds, Gareth still totaled 51 points.

Garth claimed second on the day, while Andy Isle - who spectacularly eagled the par four 16th - snatched third on countback from Maurice Woodhouse who in turn edged out Peter and Keri for fourth after all finished with 21 points.

The twos money was shared by Peter and Andy.

Andy recorded the best net - a 70 off the white tees. Paul and Gareth were next with 72, followed by Peter with 73. Andy (76) and Pete Green (79) were the only golfers to beat 80 in the excellent winter conditions.

There was a great turnout of 9-holers, with Andrew Dean taking the honours with a very tidy net 33 off the front nine. Graham Strickett (35) was second and Phil Sellers took third on countback from Jim McMullan after both recorded 36.

Next week (August 10) we play the seventh round of the Barkman Trophy and Shootout off the white tees, while the 9-holers play a par round off the back nine.
