Three in-form golfers headed the field on Saturday to put themselves well in contention for Stubberfield Cup honours.

On a hot and humid day Pete Green threatened to shoot under par until a couple of late bogies saw him finish with a impressive 72 off the stick. Playing off a 5 handicap from the white tees, the club captain and our No 1 showed he was in good touch for the upcoming Sloan Trophy with a net 67 which together with 29 putts saw him finish first with a total score of 96 in the second round of the net plus putts competition. His inward 34 featured three birdies, including a two at No 14.

Fresh from a hole in one, Barry Rhodes showed he will be hard to beat with a net 68 plus 30 putts for a 98 and second place. It was his second consecutive score in the nineties.

Just one behind was Bryan Ramsey who came in with a net 69 and 30 putts for 99 to stay squarely in the frame.

He was followed by Paul Tunnicliff (71 + 29), Jack Denton (71 + 31), Ian Hanford (72 + 30), Maurice Woodhouse (73 + 30), Warwick King (74 + 29), Richard Pearson (73 + 31) and Geoff Halkett (73 + 31).

As well as Pete, five others - Bryan, Paul, Jack, Richard and Lewis Wilson - scored twos and shared a very small jackpot.

There are two more rounds of the Stubberfield to play, with the best three counting towards the trophy.

However, next Saturday (Feb 11) we switch to playing the fourth and final round of the Penketh Plate, which is a net competition off the blue tees.
