Warren Carey rediscovered his best form to romp to victory in the second round of the Burns Philp Trophy on Saturday.

After enduring a recent lean spell, Wazza caught fire from the get-go, chipping in for birdie on No 4, his starting hole, parring the next and then chipping in again for another birdie on No 6. His hot start cooled slightly but he still finished with an impressive 42 stableford points off the blue tees. He shot a fine net 67 playing off a 23 handicap to win the match of the day by two points from the rapidly-improving and relentless Garth Jameson who carded a net 68 for 40 stableford points.

Andy Isle shot the best gross of the day - a 78 - to come in with 39 points for third.

No other golfer in the field played to their handicap in the humid conditions on a course softened by rain, with Mike Brien (Greenacres) fourth with 33 points. Pete Green and Bryan Ramsey were next with 32 points apiece, while the trio of Maurice Woodhouse, Paul Tunnicliff and Lewis Wilson followed with 31 points each. Chris Louth rounded out the top 10 with 30 points.

Pete, Paul and Aaron Kotua shared the twos money.

Next Saturday (Jan 14) we play the first round of the Wayne Stubberfield Memorial Trophy, which is a net plus putts competition played over four rounds.
