Club results for 8/11/25

A couple of crafty Golden Oldies golfers took full advantage of ideal scoring conditions and some guns being away at the annual Country Clubs tournament to top the leaderboard in Saturday's match of the day.

Old Hickory convenor and captain Ian Hanford showed he was in good touch for the penultimate round of the vets inter-club competition at Takaka next Thursday by amassing 39 stableford points off the white tees to take first place on countback from Chris Louth who posted the same number of points.

Neil McLaren flew the lefthander's flag with 37 points for third, while Bryan Ramsey pipped Peter Watson for fourth on countback after both came in with 36 points. Dave Huntley completed the top six with 35 points. Peter shot the best gross of the day, an 80.

Given how smooth the greens were rolling, surprisingly no-one bagged a two, although Bryan got closest to the pin on No 2/10 and Paul Tunnicliff did likewise on No 5/14.

John Dixon  took the nine-hole honours on countback after he and Warren Green both finished with 19 stableford points for the back nine. Paul McCrae edged Dan Allen for third on countback after both totalled 17 points.

Again, no-one had a two.

Next Saturday (Nov 15) we celebrate the closing day of the winter season with a fun ambrose off the yellow tees followed by a BBQ and annual prizegiving. This event is open to men and women club and non-club members so invite your family and friends along. Please get your teams organised beforehand if possible. There is a prize for the best dressed foursome.
