Club results for 8/8/26

Andy Isle is the Six-Hole Challenge champ for 2026 after just withstanding a last-round charge by Graham Eggers.

Andy held a two-point lead over Graham, Gareth Edwards and Peter Watson going into the third and final round on Saturday (August 8).

He again played very well in amassing 24 points in shooting a net 69 off the white tees, which included three birdies. This took his points tally to an imposing 69.

However, Graham shot the lights out in posting a fantastic net 62 for 25 points and a total of 68 to fall agonising short of forcing a sudden death playoff. Graham's gross of 77 - made up a font nine 38 and back nine 39 - was his second best ever score at Waahi Taakaro.

It was good enough to take match of the day honours from Andy who pipped Matt Tomczyk for third on countback after both finished with 24 points. 

They were followed by Jason Lee, Lewis Wilson and Peter Watson on 21 points, with Peter finishing third overall with 64 points.

Next were Bryan Ramsey (20) and Keri and Aaron Kotua with 19 each. Matt's good last round saw him claimed fourth overall on countback from Gareth after both ended with 60 points.

There were four twos, with Andy, Lewis, Keri and Jarrod Huss bagging one each, while Lewis won closest to the pin on No 5/14.

Graham's 77 was the best gross of the day, with Andy (78) the only other player to shoot under 80.

There was equally excellent golf played by the 9-holers, with Andrew Green the star performer. Playing off a 10-handicap for the front nine, he monstered the course in going round in 37 off the stick. The big hitter birdied the first and parred the rest except for bogies at the tough No 3 and No 6. His net 27 added up to an incredible 27 stableford points which was head and shoulder above the rest of the field. 

Paul McCrae took second on countback from Jim McMullan after both came in with 19 points. They were followed by Richard Pearson (18) and the trio of Warren Carey, Barry Rhodes and Dave Huntley with 17 each. There were no twos.

There is a lot riding on next Saturday (August 15) with the 18-holers playing the first qualifying round of the Club Champs which also counts as the first round of the C&F Legal Stroke and carries Barkman Trophy points and is a Shootout round. It will be played off the blue tees. 

The second round of qualifying and of the Stroke competition are on August 29 while the third and final round of qualifying is on September 12. You must play two of the three qualifying rounds to be in with a chance of making the top eight playoffs in your respective grades

So please set aside these dates as we want a big turnout for the club champs, which is our premier club competition of the season. Club captain James Campion will send out an email later about the handicap range for each grade.
