Paul McCrae took home the Easter chocolates with a narrow win in the first round of the Barkman Trophy.

The canny 15-handicapper shot an 86 off the white tees to finish with a net 71, which was good enough to top the standings on yet another splendid autumn day for golf.

Warren Carey, helped by the only two of the day on No 14, took second on countback from Mick Leggett after both recorded 72.

Neil McLaren's 73 secured fourth. He was followed by by Jim McMullan and Barry Rhodes on 74, the trio of Lloyd Patchett, Keri Kotua and Andrew Craig on 76 and Ian Hanford and Peter Green on 77.

The round also doubled as the start of the Shootout competition, with Warren, Mick and Neil setting the early pace in the best net competition.

The net round also saw the completion of the Cap-it-all Trophy competition, with Keri and Peter playing their final catch-up individual rounds. After a good combined net on the first day, they needed low individual net rounds to challenge for the trophy but blew out to a combined total of 153, which saw them finish a disappointing eighth.

This left Aaron Kotua and Steve Russell clear winners with a total of 206, two ahead of Mike Murphy and Paul McCrae in second.

Next Saturday (April 23) we play the second round of the Brebde Senior/Junior.
