Club results for August 15, 2020
Playing steady and straight golf has earned Tom Weiss plenty of silverware over the years and the veteran was at it again on Saturday (August 15) in taking out the latest round of the Barkman Trophy.
With the sun on his back and the course firming up after a week of glorious weather, Tom turned it on to record 38 stableford points. The 23.3 handicapper pushed one the of the club best golfers, Keri Kotua, into second, who shot a solid nett 71 in amassing 37 points and showing why he deserved his recent selection in the Nelson rep team to play Marlborough and the West Coast next month.
There was some distance back to third, with Ian Hanford claiming the honours with 34 points on a day of generally high scoring despite the excellent conditions. Many found the slick greens difficult to navigate.
Lewis Wilson was fourth on 33 points. He was followed by Alan Church and Lindsay Brooks on 32 points and Peter Watson and Barry Rhodes on 31 points. Steve Turnell and Paul Tunnicliff, with 30 apiece, rounded out the top ten.
Lewis and Peter Green shared the twos money.
Keri climbed the Shootout standings with his nett 71 as did Lewis (75), while Peter Watson (77), Paul Tunnicliff (78) and Aaron Kotua (80) marked time in making up the top five scores of the day.
Next week is another round of the Barkman Trophy - a nett round off the blue tees - and Shootout.
