Barry Rhodes brought himself into Barkman Trophy reckoning by winning the latest round of the season-long competition on Saturday (Aug 22).
The veteran 31.8 handicapper was the only golfer in the field to shoot under his handicap in the spring-like conditions, which was played off the white tees after persistent rain lengthened the course earlier in the week.
His nett 70 earned him maximum points, while Steve Turnell took second place on countback from Peter Watson after both recorded 72s.
Lindsay Brooks was headed for a higher spot before stumbling at the last hole to finish fourth on 73.
Paul McCrae's 74 was good enough for fifth. He was followed by a group of five - Bryan Ramsey, Keri Kotua, Steve Russell, Ian Hanford an Paul Tunnicliff - on 76.
Ian Hanford and Warwick King divvied up the twos money between them.
So after nine rounds of the Barkman Trophy Aaron Kotua and Paul McCrae share the lead with 26 points. Close behind is Dave Blake on 23. Tom Weiss and Barry Rhodes are next with 18. They are followed by Paul Tunnicliff 17, Mike Murphy 16, Maurice Woodhouse and Alan Church on 14, with Keri Kotua rounding off the top ten on 12. There are eight rounds remaining.
In the Shootout, Peter Watson edged up the ladder with his 72. Keri Kotua, Steve Russell and Paul Tunnicliff cemented their spots in the top ten with 76s, while Aaron Kotua still improved his average with 77.
