Chris Louth demonstrated again why he is one of the most improved golfers in the club when he won the match of the day in testing conditions on Saturday.

The 33-handicapper and avid practiser shot a net 69, which included a two at No 11, to edge Peter Watson on countback in the eight round of the Barkman Trophy.

Faced with a strong, swirling wind and light rain, Chris kept his composure to go out in 51 and come back with the same score for a gross 102 off the white tees.

Peter's net 69 included three birdies on the front nine and featured some accurate driving and iron play and clutch putting. His 75 off the stick was the lowest score of the day.

Warwick King claimed third with a creditable net 71 given his recent lack of golf, while the ever-present Mick Leggett was fourth on 72.

They were followed by Paul Tunnicliff (73) and Jim McMullan (75), while Warren Carey (76) nabbed the last Barkman Trophy point up for grabs on countback from Geoff Halkett, Keri Kotua and Dean Goodman.

There was a plethora of twos, with seven players - Steve Russell, Ian Hanford, Dean, Richard Pearson, Neil McLaren, Chris and Keri - sharing the spoils.

The round also counted towards the Shootout, with Peter, Warwick, Mick and Paul improving their net average with five qualifying rounds to go to find the top 10 before the final showdown.

Next Saturday (August 13) is the Six-Hole Challenge, whereby players are drawn into groups of four and play each other over six holes of matchplay on handicap off the white tees.
