- Peter Watson
Every dog has their day and on Saturday (Dec 12) it was Peter Watson's time to shine.
The veteran lefty shook off some indifferent form on his home course to shoot 78 off the stick from the blue tees in gusty and swirling conditions to comfortably win the second round of the Burns Philp Trophy.
He went out in 38, with a birdie on the par three No 5, and came back in 40, thanks to further birdies on No 16 and 17 and a par at the difficult No 18.
His 40 stableford points was three better than Jim McMullan who returned to form with 37 points. The consistent Barry Rhodes grabbed another third placing with 36 points.
Next were Paul McCrae and Jack Denton on 35 points, followed by Rangi Kohe and Stephen Russell with 33 points to claim the final fedex points of the day.
Peter W scooped the twos money with the only one of the day and was just centimetres away from bagging the jackpot.
Next week is the third round of the Penketh Cup, which is an all irons (no hybrids) round off the whites tees.
