That golf is a game for all ages was never truer than on Saturday (Feb 13) as 40 years spanned the first three finishers in the fourth and final round of the Penketh Plate.

Senior superannuitant Barry Rhodes headed the field with a neat nett 67, seeing off challenges from Neil McLaren who edged the younger up and comer Hamish Cadigan for second after both recorded 68s.

However, Hamish - who had shot a stellar nett 60 in the all irons round back in December - had the last laugh as his best of three round total of 203 was easily good enough to win the trophy for the nett summer competition. This was 12 shots better than Barry and 15 better than Jim McMullan who took third on countback from Paul McCrae.

On Saturday Paul McCrae (70) and Bryan Ramsey and Jack Denton (71 each) finished behind the top trio, while Jim (72) grabbed the final Fedex point on offer.

There were three twos scored, with Paul Tunnicliff, Bryan and Hamish Cadigan sharing the spoils, although Bryan was a roll or two away from snaring an elusive jackpot and Paul went within a whisper of an ace on No 11.

Next week (Feb 20) is the third round of the Stubberfield Cup (nett plus putts) which also doubles as the Pat Melviile Memorial Trophy for those 55 and over, which means most of us and one that Hamish and the younger brigade won't be able to get their hands on.
