- Peter Watson
Peter Green showed he is in good form with the beginning of the inter-club season just a few weeks away when he won the third round of the Burns Philp Trophy on Saturday (Jan 15)
The 11-handicapper shot the low round of the day - a 78 - off the blue tees in warm conditions, with his impressive 41 stableford points topping the field.
Snapping at his heels was Paul McCrae who amassed 40 for second place on a day of generally good scoring on a course starting to dry out and play a lot shorter because of the run.
Neil McLaren took third on countback from Brendan Doyle after both came in with 38 points. They were followed by Aaron Kotua and Andrew Craig on 37 points each. Next were the trio of Lewis Wilson, Chris Kenchington and Steve Russell with 36 points apiece. Geoff Halkett completed the top ten with 35 points.
Paul McCrae scooped the twos pool with the only one of the day and he goes into the fourth and final round on February 5 with a three-round stableford total of 112 and a two-point lead over Peter Watson and a five-point lead over Steve Russell among those players who have played all three rounds. The best three of four rounds decide the winner.
Next Saturday (Jan 22) we play the third round of the Penketh Plate, which is a net competition. It will be played off the white tees using only irons.
