Golf is a game of ups and down and it was Warwick King's turn to scale the heights on Saturday (Jan 16).

The leftie 21.5 handicapper was near his best as he amassed 43 stableford points to claim top spot in the third round of the Burns Philp played in ideal summer conditions.

His adjusted 84 off the stick included a birdie at No 2 and a nine at No 10 as he took the match of the day honours from a trio on 41 points, headed by Warren Carey who snatched second on countback from Keri Kotua who in turn pipped Paul Tunnicliff for third.

Dave Blake - who overcame a 10 at No 1 - and Bryan Ramsey were next with 40 points on a day when scoring was generally excellent on a course improving all the time.

They were followed by Alan Church (39), Jim McMullan (38) and Steve Turnell, Maurice Woodhouse and Tom Weiss, who all finished with 37 points. Only two players in the field didn't crack 30 points.

Warwick and Keri shared the twos money.

Next week (Jan 23) is the second round of the Stubberfield Cup (nett plus putts) played off the white tees. Please report by 9am for a 9.30 tee-off.
