Winton Griggs and Peter Green celebrated the New Year with a win in the match of the day on Saturday (Jan 2).
The 24-handicapper and his 11-handicap team mate combined expertly for a nett score of 64.25 in an Ambrose off the blue tees to head the field in mild summer conditions.
Tied for second were the duo of Maurice Woodhouse and Dean Goodman and the trio of Paul Tunnicliff, Rangi Kohe and Jim McMullan who finished with 66.50 each.
Just a smidgeon back were Andy Isle and Neil McLaren - who impressed on his Saturday debut - and Paul McCrae and Peter Watson on 66.75.
In all 13 teams took part in the enjoyable and relaxing format.
Warren Carey had extra reason to smile after recording the only two of the day.
It's back to more serious competition next week (Jan 9) with the first of four rounds of the Stubberfield Cup (nett plus putts) off the blue tees, starting at 9.30am. Please get there by 9am to allow the starter time to organise a draw.
