Paul McCrae showed his putting prowess to take out the second round of the Stubberfield Cup on Saturday (Jan 23).

In benign conditions off the white tees, the 18.2 handicapper and wily competitor recorded a nett 68 to go with 27 putts for a total of 95 in the nett plus putts competition to snatch first place from a cluster of chasers and put himself firmly in contention for cup and Summer Fedex honours.

Snapping at his heels was the back-in-form Jim McMullan, who shot the bet nett of the day - a 66 - to go with 30 putts. This was just good enough to pip Bryan Ramsey (67, 29) for second on countback.

Tom Weiss (69, 28) took fourth on countback from Dean Goodman (69, 28) - who shot 75 off the stick for the best gross of the day - and Rangi Kohe (73, 24) who was the day's best putter.

Maurice Woodhouse (69, 29) finished seventh on countback from Jonathan Tuheke (69, 29) and Paul Tunnciliff (71, 27) to claim the final Fedex point.

Dean Goodman scooped the twos pool with the only one of the day, a birdie on No 14.

Next week (Jan 30) is the third round of the Penketh Plate, a nett round off the blue tees.
