Barry Rhodes has fashioned a pretty good record over the last few years which has brought him a number of trophies.

And he went a long way to getting his name engraved on another with a fabulous net 64 to top the scoring for the second round of the Penketh Plate on Saturday (Jan 8), despite missing the first round.

Playing off a 30 handicap from the blue tees, Barry took full advantage of ideal summer conditions to post 94 off the stick to coast to a five-shot win.

The best three of four rounds decide the overall winner.

Paul McCrae is rarely far away from the action and his tidy net 69 was good enough for second on countback from Warren Carey.

In fourth place was Steve Turnell who found some overdue form to head a quartet who all finished with net 70s, which also included Mike Murphy, Peter Watson and Brendan Doyle.

Next were Dave Slow and Andrew Craig on 71 each. Rounding out the top dozen were Steve Russell, Warwick King and Lloyd Patchett who came in with 72s.

Paul Tunnicliff and Peter Watson shared the twos money, while Peter shot the best round of the day - a 77 - which threatened to be much better until two late double bogies.

Next week (Jan 15) we play the third round of the Burns Philp, a stableford competition which will again be off the blue tees.
