Club results for July 10, 2021

Steve Russell returned to somewhere near his best form to win the latest round of the Barkman Trophy on Saturday (July 10).

The 14.3 handicapper and Sloan Trophy member went within a whisker of breaking 80 but for a double bogey on No 3 - his final hole. A feature of his splendid round in cool conditions off the white tees was his long and consistent ball striking. After going out in 39 - which included a birdie at No 9 - he came home in 41 to total an impressive 40 stableford points to top the match of the day standings.

Dave Blake - with an eye-catching 39 on the back nine - roared home to finish second with 38 points. This was just ahead of Peter Green who shot 80 off the stick - including the only two of the day at No 14 - for 37 points and third.

Next were Paul McCrae (36 points), Andy Isle (34) and Paul Tunnicliff (33), with Alan Church (32) claiming the last Barkman point on offer on countback from Charlie Edgarton.

 The day also doubled as a Shootout round, with Steve, Dave and Peter all improving their nett averages.

Next Saturday (July 17) is another round of both the Barkman Trophy (a nett match of the day off the white tees) and Shootout. Please get your name on the start sheets.
